'Seeing Is Necking'

Australia & New Zealand, 1984

In the earlier years of Andrew's career, he constructed a performance titled 'Seeing is Necking', which he presented to receptive audiences in Australia and New Zealand from 1984.

Andrew refers to the performances as 'digs', in which he is physically buried to his naval in sand or soil, and contained under the surface for around 5 minutes, with his legs pointing skyward. An emotionally churning and provocative performance, which highlights the ambiguous concept of 'burial', especially when one is living.
