Seeing is Necking
Praxis, Western Australia, 1984
Seeing is Necking
was a performance, painting, print and installation work that came about
from a car accident that Andrew had in Europe, 5 years prior. The outcome
of that accident was severe neck injury. On New Years Day, 1984, going
through the motions of his yoga exercise, Andrew was able for the first
time to do a headstand, which he documented, and thus became the start
of 6 performances that were documented in different locations around Western
Australia and concluded with an installation performance body of work.
Being buried in this
situation, all sensory awareness was shut down, with 2 things happening-
1.the need to breathe slowly, 2. and to drop fear.
Below is a small selection
of many photos taken at the 6 on site burials, culminating in a performance,
installation based work at Praxis, Perth.
