A Painted Diary (Made to Law)
Art Gallery of Western Australia, 1990

A Painted Diary came about through the council intervening with Andrews property at 100 Hubble for illegal buildings and building without permits. In response to this huge dilemma that had been created, due to a work order being placed on the property, this project became a catharsis of documenting a little painting of the same size (20cm x 30cm) over a whole year, 365 paintings, 365 days, 5th March 1989 - 5th March 1990. During this year, Andrew's then girlfriend Jill Kempson, was awarded the Arthur Boyd Studio in Tuscany. Andrew was able to spend 6 months abroad painting in Europe.

Essentially, many of the paintings were angry paintings, some of the paintings took an hour, and some took 15 hours in a day, but all the paintings started and finished in that day.
